The “Next” Question

A couple weeks ago I told you about a question that I’ve been asked a multitude of times. The question keeps on coming, but I’ve accepted that it’s a hard question to answer and will keep being asked.

If you haven’t read that blog, you can read it here

There’s another question that I’ve been asked a lot, too. The question that comes shortly after the “how was it” question.

The “next” question. So, what’s next?

In month nine of my Race, I started to look forward. What was my “next”?

My former job at H-E-B put me on a personal LOA [leave of absence], providing the option to go back and work for them.

I knew I probably wouldn’t go back to doing the exact same role, but I decided that I would pursue H-E-B until the Lord shut the doors to opportunities with them.

Then the last day of month nine rolled around.

My friend Dani had the team sit with the Lord and essentially write a letter to ourselves from God. To listen to who He said we are in Him, and to write down what we hear.

So, I did.

But as I finished, I started to think about my squad mentor, Amy. I was thinking forward to post-Race life. I imagined keeping up with her and her new squad, probably always wanting to know how they were doing.

My thoughts shifted to Lauren, who was our squad administrator.

And then the letters SQA abruptly popped into my head. A good indicator that it’s not my own thought.

I know that those letters wouldn’t mean anything to most people. Maybe even most Racers. But I knew that was the abbreviation of Lauren’s role. A squad administrator.

It caught me off guard and felt so out of place, considering that wasn’t the point of us sitting with the Lord in that moment.

But there it was. Introduced to me on that last evening of month nine.

And I set it aside for two weeks, not sure what to do with this new idea. Not sure if it was actually the thing I was supposed to pursue.

After those couple weeks had passed, I finally sat down in front of computer and looked at the career page on Adventures in Missions website [AIM is the organization that facilities the World Race among many other mission trips].

There was no squad administrator role listed. I reached out to Amy to ask her a question about the career portal on the website.

After a couple texts back and forth, this was she said.

“What kind of job would you be interested in exactly? We may need another squad administrator soon.”

My heart leapt in shock. That was no coincidence. I hadn’t even told her what the Lord had told me two weeks prior.

So, we ended that conversation with her offering to send me the application link if the job did end up opening. And it did. Three weeks later.

With all that being said…one application and three phone interviews later, I am officially a squad administrator at Adventures in Missions!

I will be moving to Georgia and start on October 10th. What!

I am so so excited. This role fits my gift of administration, yet I know there will be so many aspects that stretch and grow me too. I am pumped to be able to pour back into an organization that facilitated the most incredible year of my life to date.

During one of my interviews with a current SQA, she told me something surprising. She said that in the last two years of doing her job, she had learned and grown more in that time than she had on her World Race.

I was so encouraged to hear that. Life doesn’t stop after the Word Race. It’s just a chapter in the book, and I can’t wait to see what the Lord will continue to walk me through in this new season.

Part of the SQA role will require raising support. Over the course of each year, I will have a fundraising goal of $7,000.

Being on the other side of finishing the World Race, I can tell you [with even more confidence than before] that partnering with Adventures in Missions provides an incredible opportunity for Christians to experience the world and the Lord in a new way.

I am specifically looking for monthly donors of $100 or $50 per month. Of course, one time donations are always appreciated too!
